Dentist from Union, W.Va. honored as outstanding alumnus

Dr. Mark Kilcollin was recognized by the dental school alumni association

Dr. Mark Kilcollin received the West Virginia University School of Dentistry Alumni Association Outstanding Alumnus Award.

Dr. Kilcollin was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia and graduated from Charleston Catholic High School in 1965. Dr. Kilcollin then traveled to Chapel Hill North Carolina, where he received and A.B. in economics from the University of North Carolina in 1970.

After receiving his undergraduate degree, Dr. Kilcollin returned to the Mountain State where he started dental school in 1970 and received his Doctorate Degree in 1974. While in dental school, Mark was very involved in leadership roles and served as President of the American Student Dental Association in 1973.

Almost immediately after graduation, Dr. Kilcollin opened a practice in Union, W.Va. and became involved in organized dentistry. Dr. Kilcollin is past president and secretary of the Greenbrier Valley Dental Society and has served for 36 years on the Executive Council of the West Virginia Dental Association.

Dr. Kilcollin has been extremely involved in his home town of Union and has served on its town council. He has been President of the Rotary Club of Union and served on the Board of Directors of the Greenbrier Valley Hospital. He has also served as vice president of the Monroe County Education Foundation and Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Monroe.

Dr. Kilcollin has given back to the citizens of the state and his alma mater is many ways. Mark has served as a rural practice preceptor since 1993 and has served as a mock boards judge and administrator.

If you happen to be in the clinic, you will see that there is a plaque in row D chair 12 which states Dr. Mark C. Kilcollin, dentistry in Monroe County since 1974.

Mark has earned many awards over the years including Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 1999 and Rural Health Practitioner of the Year in 2013. Both of his daughters, Katie and Abby, have followed in his footsteps and joined his practice.

Dr. Kilcollin is married to wife Debbie. They are also parents to a son named Camp.
