Kanawha Valley dentists pay it forward to dental school

Two groups contribute to scholarship funds

WSAZ reports on dental school donation

At the November 2, 2021 meeting of the Kanawha Valley Dental Society, West Virginia University School of Dentistry received two investments in student scholarships and the future or oral healthcare.

Dr. Stephen Pachuta, dean and 1985 graduate of the dental school, and Karen Combs, director of development, were on hand to visit with oral health professionals who treat patients in the southern region of the state.

Members of the Kanawha County Dental Society presented a check for their scholarship fund.
The American Academy of General Dentistry's West Virginia chapter donated to the school's general scholarship fund.

We're very happy with the work the dental school does. They have great technology and we want them to keep up with that technology. We think it's important to keep donating back to the dental school. - Christen Simpson to WSAZ news

"We are extremely thankful to the Kanawha Valley Dental Society and the WV AGD for their incredibly generous contributions and always strong support of our School," Pachuta said.

Thanks to donors, more than 50 scholarships were handed out to students in the fall of 2021

More than 85 percent of the dentists practicing in the state are graduates of the WVU School of Dentistry.
