Member of class of '80 honored by dental school alumni association

He was one of five to be recognized during alumni weekend

Dr. Kerri Simpson hands an alumni award to Dr. Tom Leslie.Dr. Tom Leslie  received a distinguished alumus award from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry alumni association. He was one of five recognized at alumni weekend March, 25, 2022. 

 

Dr. Leslie is a native of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia and received his pre dental education at both Shepherd College and West Virginia University. Tom entered the WVU School of Dentistry in 1976 and graduated in 1980. It was also in 1980 that Tom opened his practice in Berkeley Springs where he is still practicing today.

Almost immediately after graduation Dr. Leslie became involved in organized dentistry on the local, state, and national level. Dr. Leslie has served as President of the Eastern Panhandle Dental Society, the 1998 President of the West Virginia Dental Association, and has been a Delegate from West Virginia to the American Dental Association for multiple terms. Dr. Leslie has served on the Executive Council of the West Virginia Dental Association for 24 years, which is one of the longest terms in the history of the Association. While serving as a Delegate to the ADA from West Virginia, Dr. Leslie was appointed to the Council on Dental Practice and the American Dental Political Action Committee. Dr. Leslie has also served as President of the Dental Insultants which is one of the most prestigious organizations in dentistry.

Tom has been a leader on the Oral Health Advisory Panel for West Virginia and the Task Force on Oral Health. He was also instrumental in bringing Donated Dental Services to West Virginia. He has also served on the Board of Directors for Healthy Smiles Oral Health Center and on the Board of Trustees of Valley Health Systems.

Dr. Leslie has also been very involved with his alma mater and has served as an Associate Professor for the WVU Rural Health Education Program since 2008. Tom has also served on the WVU School of Dentistry's visiting committee and on multiple search committees for the school.

Among the many awards that he has received over his illustrious career are Fellowship in the American College of Dentists, Fellowship in the International College of Dentists and the Distinguished Dentist Award from the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
