Three Ways to Practice Mindfulness in 2019

Improve personal quality of life with mindfulness.

Find your focus in 2019 as the WVU Mindfulness Program rings in the new year with greater resilience, presence and well-being in mind.

  1. Until May 17 the Wellness Studio will host daily 20-minute mindfulness meditation sessions. Whether beginner, seasoned or somewhere in between, take time to learn and experience the numerous health benefits of regular meditation. Days and times will be as follows: Mondays & Wednesdays from 1:15 p.m.–1:35 p.m. and Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 11:15 a.m.–11:35 a.m.
  2. Additionally, yoga teacher Nicole Gauthier-Schatz and clinical therapist Laurel Faulkenberry of WVU Medicine will be offering monthly mindfulness workshops for interested departments and groups. The hour-long workshops will cover a toolbox of techniques designed to effectively change stress response, the result of which is a calmer, more resilient and focused mind.
  3. And finally, if you're looking to further your mindfulness practice, a six-week Mindful Mondays series will run every Monday (April 1-May 6) from 12:05 p.m.-12:55 p.m. at the Wellness Studio (G-278 HSC South). The series focuses on different themes each week from mindful eating and mindful communicating to yoga and the science of mindfulness research, all designed to create better mind-body connectivity and understanding that can positively influence your relationship to stress.

Classes and sessions will be hosted by a trio of instructors with decades of combined mindfulness experience, including: neuroscientist Julie Brefczynski-Lewis, clinical therapist Laurel Faulkenberry, and yoga teacher & stress management specialist Nicole Gauthier-Schatz.

All mindfulness programs are free for students, faculty, staff and employees of WVU and Ruby Memorial Hospital. Participants can attend sessions individually or in sequence, walk-ins are welcome.
