CED staff participate in augmentative and alternative communication summer camp

The Talking Time AAC Summer Camp hosted by Exceptional Possibilities took place in July.

The WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities was excited to take part in the Talking Time AAC Summer Camp hosted by Exceptional Possibilities of West Virginia, Inc. this July. CED Education Coordinator Tori Gilbert, West Virginia Assistive Technology System (WVATS) Program Manager Doug Cumpston, and Country Roads instructor Steven Slack all participated in the camp and make appearances in the official documentary.

AAC stands for augmentative and alternative communication, and is used by individuals who are nonverbal or have difficulty communicating. This camp is the only of its kind in West Virginia.

Think AAC might be right for you or a family member? Gilbert and Cumpston also run the Communication Access & Assistive Technology (CAAT) Clinic at the CED which provides consultation, training and resources for individuals who have difficulty being understood using speech.
