Radiology to use new communication system with providers starting Oct. 5

WVU Medicine Radiology has entered into a partnership with PowerConnect Actionable Findings, a patient safety communication system designed to ensure that critical diagnostic findings reach the ordering physician promptly to improve patient safety, and enhance timely and reliable clinical communication.

WVU Medicine Radiology will use PowerConnect Actionable Findings to communicate critical findings beginning Monday, Oct. 5, although direct phone calls from the radiologist may occasionally occur. The notification will consist of a message sent to the provider’s pager or mobile device. This will include a call-in number and PIN, which the provider will use to access a voice message containing a report of the finding from the radiologist who interpreted the study. The provider must then acknowledge the result in order for notifications to end (Press 1 after listening to message).

The system creates an efficient balance between the preferences and needs of the medical staff and constraints imposed by the Joint Commission and HIPAA regulations.

Radiology thanks all involved in advance for their cooperation. For more information or questions, call 304-598-XRAY.
