School of Dentistry researchers author recent publications

Researchers from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry recently authored several publications.

Arif Salman, MDS, chair of the Department of Periodontics, published a study titled “Cross-Sectional Clinical Validation of the Periodontal Disease Self-Report Measure” in Community Dentistry and Oral Epidemiology. Co-authors include Casey Wright, Ph.D., Raul Garcia, DMD, Daniel McNeil, Ph.D., and Brenda Heaton, Ph.D.

R. Constance Wiener, DMD, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Dental Public Health and Professional Practice, Christopher Waters, MS, research labs director, and Meghan Bastin, DMD, MPH, assistant professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, published a study titled “Appalachian Numeracy and Literacy and Oral Health, an Ecological Study, PIAAC and BRFSS” in the Journal of Public Health Dentistry.

Dr. Wiener and M. Suann Gaydos, MSDH, director of the WVU Certified Tobacco Treatment Training Program, published a study titled “Nicotine Pouch Use and Adolescents’ and Children’s Grades in School, National Youth Tobacco Survey 2022-23” in Substance Use & Misuse. Ruchi Bhandari, Ph.D., assistant professor in the WVU School of Public Health, co-authored the study.

Wiener published a study titled “Association of reported sleep disturbances with objectively assessed mild cognitive impairment among adults in the United States” in SAGE Open Medicine. Co-authors include Chan Shen, Ph.D., Hao Wang, MD, Ph.D., Arthur Nguimatsa Djiotsop, Mona Pathak, Ph.D., Sophie Mitra, Ph.D., Patricia Findley, DrPH, and Usha Sambamoorthi, Ph.D.
