The Campaign for Facilities
Transforming Oral Health
With your help, the next generation of West Virginia dentists and dental hygienists will be trained in radically modernized facilities that reflect the excellent education and quality patient care provided by the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.
Transforming Oral Health: The Campaign for Facilities strives to renovate, advance, improve, enhance, modernize and innovate to bring the school out of 1957, when its current space was first created, into the 2020s and beyond.
These spaces are the “front door” for over 14,000 West Virginians who come to us annually for their oral health needs, and over 80% of the dentists practicing in West Virginia are graduates of the WVU School of Dentistry.
Philanthropic support from alumni and other supporters is essential to complete the upgrades necessary to meet the needs of today’s dental health professionals and be even more impactful for the patients we serve.
“Our renovation and modernization initiative is a strategic imperative. Modernizing our facilities and consolidating our predoctoral and postdoctoral education programs will significantly enhance the education experiences for our students and the patient experience for our West Virginia families — those entrusted to our care.” —Dr. Stephen Pachuta, Dean*
Building the Future
Working in collaboration with WVU Facilities Management, SmithGroup has reimagined the dental facility to meet 21st century needs. SmithGroup is a firm made up of architects, engineers, designers and planners who have led higher education renovation and development plans across the nation and internationally, including health facilities.
The multiphase plan will first focus on pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, the Dr. W. Robert Biddington Center for Dental Innovation and the faculty group practice, followed by a surgical suite, specialty clinics, and administrative and academic offices.
The result will be radically modernized facilities that will complement the mentoring and guidance provided by world-class faculty with expertise in unique specialties to ensure graduates are proficient in the most advanced techniques and evolving technologies.
